  • Gangland Execution Of Farron Barksdale?
Farron Barksdale is dead. He's got bruises and an internal infection that is blamed for his death. But is the cookie cutter pattern of demise just another coincidence? The Alabama Department of Corrections says an autopsy will be done. But can it be trusted? This type of event in the criminal justice system seems to be escalating. Regardless of who's fault it is, it shouldn't have happened. The percentages of imprisonment are escalating while cheap labor floods in from Mexico, and neo-Nazi genetic engineering is proliferating. What really is it that "Homeland Security" is trying to achieve? What does the FBI actually do?

  • One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest?
Barely three weeks after Farron Barksdale allegedly shot and killed Larry Russell and Tony Mims in Athens, State Senator Tom Butler jumped on the opportunity to exploit the tragedy for his own political gains, and the advancement of "big brother," at the annual public forum of the North Alabama Legislative delegation. At that meeting I spoke out against the arbitrary profiling suggested by Tom Butler in regard to gun-control legislation that eventually did pass in the Alabama legislature. I also noted at the time that 513 American lives had been lost in Iraq, ostensibly in defense of the Constitution, while Tom Butler exploited the two lost officers in his efforts to undermine the Constitution. Now, of course, more than 3000 lives have been lost in Iraq -- however, apparently not for the US Constitution. This article is an account of my participation in that public forum.

  • Man, Talk About A Disaster
Another busy week and good riddance to Karl Rove! It never ceases to amaze me how the main stream media can obscure the obvious, I suppose to milk the story. Get this. He left because he's no longer needed to serve his lame, comatose, Dubya Duck. They don't have enough time to put the Republican Frankenstein back together again. Which leads me to also note the mainstream media seems unable to cover the Republican primary contenders along with Hillary and Obama. It's not that I love the Republican's so much, but let's face it, Bush is not a Republican anyway. Bush is a neo-Nazi. Maybe the big boys think the final election of either Hillary of Obama is a foregone conclusion, but I frankly doubt that either one can win the general election. Maybe if someone in the Republican ranks would step up a little more boldly, to denounce the illegal war for instance, they might have a chance of holding the Oval office one more time. Man, talk about a disaster.

  • Of Harry Potterisms
With J. K. Rowlilngs 7th and final edition in the Harry Potter series "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," being released on Saturday, I thought I would revisit another perspective on the world famous Harry Potter with all his witchcraft, voodoo, wizardry, and magic. I first ran this column on January 4th of 2002 and the discussion still seems relevant. Perhaps interestingly, there doesn't seem to have been much additional comment in the public dialogue along these lines, but either way that seems relevant unto itself.

Even still, Harry Potter isn't without religious controversy as the BBC has reported that religious politicians in Israel are accusing bookstores of religious insensitivity for their plan to open on the Sabbath in order to sell the book as it's being released. The Sabbath runs from sundown Friday evening to sundown Saturday evening. According to the BBC article, the Israeli Industry and Trade Minister, Eli Yishai, has threatened to fine any store that opens on Saturday. It is illegal to force employees to work on the Sabbath in Israel Never-the-less, booksellers remain unrepentant.

NOTE: Next week looks busy with summer chores, so I'll be taking off. I'll be back the week after that.

  • "Nucular War!"
Lo...and behold. Like a flash of lightning, president George W. Bush ascended upon Huntsville, Alabama today with almost no advance warning at all. The first reports of the Head Honcho's visit were made public just early this week. Ultimately, "W" really didn't visit Huntsville at all. He did fly into Huntsville's "International Airport" on the western outskirts of town, and then headed another 30 miles west into another county to Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant where an offline reactor was recently restarted, and is said to be the first nuclear reactor to come online in more than ten years.

Perhaps the most notable of Mr. Bush's comments, on today the summer solstice and the first day of summer, is that the United States needs to begin building at least three new nuclear power plants per year beginning no later than 2015. One figure that I was unaware of, and somewhat surprised by, is that more than 60 percent of our oil consumption now comes from foreign sources. W also stated that in the 1970's our foreign oil dependence was around 25 %, a number that seems excessively high compared to other quotes I had previously been aware of. If our foreign oil dependence has indeed reached that level, then I have to say that it is just another example of Bush administration irresponsibility.

Even still, the message is clear. If we are to survive as an autonomous nation, we must begin to make the conversion to alternative fuel supplies, one being ethanol -- primarily derived from corn crops -- and another being the electricity that will be supplied by nuclear plants, like Brown Ferry, to recharge the ever touted high technology batteries that will one day power hybrid and electric vehicles.

  • Flag Burning Video
It now appears that the second phase of groundwork is being set for a conflict with Iran. Since the potential nuclear gambit would resound as one were crying wolf, Saddam Hussein, wolf, the reasoning has apparently become Iran's supposed attacks on American soldiers in Iraq. Still, are we to believe? Speedo Gonzales dodged the Senate's no-confidence bullet yesterday. I called for his resignation (along with Bush's) months ago. More than fifty-thousand American's are being denied the right to travel on an airplane as the official government blacklist is checked for people suspected of terrorist activity each time a ticket is purchased. Even though you may have actually done nothing wrong, the US government could detain you and deny your right to travel freely. In honor of these travesties, and many others that we are facing in this once great land, and in honor of flag day tomorrow, I once again exercise my evermore precarious right to the freedom of speech by presenting this flag burning video.

  • Don Imus: C E N S O R S H I P II
Just a little bit this week in regard to the rappers who say that their artistic reflections are not the same thing as the old rich white man's good natured colloquialisms. Your right. It's not the same thing. The rap songs are worse in that they clearly and obviously celebrate a denigrative culture -- thereby further caramelizing the diseases of poverty and organized crime. In fact, various artistic expressions, in my opinion, isn't necessarily what freedom of speech is all about to begin with. Historic study will show that the framers of the Constitution were most concerned about political and social speech -- intending to protect the like of Don Imus' musings. Ok then, all the same in terms of censorship. If the rappers, and others wish to enjoy freedom of the press, and artistic freedom as well, then they have to accept the reality that sometimes someone's says something in the public sector that may be offensive.

How is that colored folks can call one another denigrating names and use foul language in their wrap music -- and thereby it is ok? Isn't that really a double standard?

Walker Lindh's Family is now calling for commutation of his twenty year prison sentence. No doubt. As noted by CBS news this evening, Walker was a kid who got caught up in a bad situation, way over his head, and never actually did much of anything wrong. Except, become the scapegoat focus for revenge of 911, and the death of CIA agent Michael Span. Bad timing, more than anything, is not justification for a twenty year prison sentence. • Lame Duck Not Sticking His Neck Out Too Far
Last nights State of the Union Address by Mr. Bush was actually quite languid when compared to his previous dissertations. Notably absent were the replete compound overtures that caused sublime confusion and required between the lines analysis. In this case, the one thing that is clear is that the stage has been set for a showdown with the Congress over funding for additional troops for the Iraq debacle. If Speaker Ms. Pelosi can put her personal interests aside long enough, it's time to rally the troops in order to take over the reigns from the flagging president and cut funding forcing an end to the American involvement in Iraqi hostilities.

Aside from the war debate, all else really sounded like something the Democratic, ergo socialist Congress, might have forged for themselves. Not to misunderstand me. The issues are important, but I have learned already that what is said and how it works out in practice are often more than two different things. I will be watching the progress of Ms. Pelosi, and the new National Socialist Congress, closely and will be offering as much scathing commentary as I have for Dubya Bush when it is requisite. We will see.
