McCain Chooses #1 Deadbeat Mom
Sarah Palin For Republican Running Mate

  By Mr. Jim Casey

Deadbeat Mom #1! That's what I said. It's really hard to comprehend. There was a time when I would've laughed at this obscenity as some sort of test of the American people, maybe sort of like a high school civics quiz. No more. The steaks are too high, the game too serious, and the results too important .. and McCain really means it.

And, that's the trouble. McCain means it, and the so-called "Christian fundamentalist" who love and worship and who are loyal to the Republican party, and most of which who are apparently "energized" by Sarah Palin's pick ... really mean it too. Normal people, in normal times, wouldn't even consider the inappropriate choice of Sarah Palin. It is immoral and unethical. It’s selfish and greedy. In that sense, it may well be a test of the American people. In Alabama recently, the legal discussion has been over the voting rights, or the lack thereof, for convicted felons. The litmus test for restoration of voting rights is the sometimes elusively defined "moral turpitude." Ladies and gentlemen, this is the perfect example of moral turpitude: John McCain for making his choice, Sarah Palin for accepting, republican supporters for embracing, and the deadbeat zealots who charade as Christians for praising the choice.

Sarah Palin is the mother of five children, four of which are still at home, one is still in diapers and a special needs child, and her seventeen year old daughter is expecting Sarah's first grandchild in just four months. What else needs to be considered? Barack Obama says "families are off limits." Is that a fact? In reality, in today's world, families are the entire discussion. Even still, it's not about the pregnant seventeen year old. Seventeen year olds get pregnant. They’re generally better off if they wait, but they don't. So be it. Thank God for responsible moms and grandmothers. Sarah Palin is neither. Sarah Palin has only recently given birth to a child with down's syndrome. She is not to be condemned for that. Human beings are not perfect and never will be. However, special needs children need additional care and love from the ones who are supposed to love them the most. Does Sarah Palin?

It isn't about her qualification to be vice president. It’s not about whether she has time to be vice president. It’s about whether or not she is responsible enough to accept the fact that she already has a job as a full time (with overtime) mommy and grandmother. How can she be considered to be responsible enough to make decisions dealing with national security, war, oil production, and all else, when she is so obviously irresponsible when it comes to her inherent responsibilities to her own family?

Worse yet, Sarah Palin's pick to run with McCain, while in a racially charged campaign against the first major black contender for president, evokes the vision of 1970's affirmative action when white women were often seen as a means to fill the quota and avoid hiring black people. In this context it reeks of racism. Sarah Palin is married to what appears to be a good man who seems to be making good money working in the Alaskan oil industry. The family doesn't really need the money. But she's had a privileged life, a beauty queen, sports star, business owner ... baby Sarah always seems to gets what she wants. And so the choice also reeks of elitism and classism.

Everyday, millions of mothers go to work, making low wages just so their children can have enough to eat, shoes and clothes to wear, and a maybe a new winter jacket. They aren’t beauty queens, or sports stars, or town mayors. Neither are their husbands or boyfriends. He works too, but there isn’t room for him to advance anymore … another “Sarah Palin” got his job. He’s just lucky to be working for minimum wage (if he’s that lucky at all) and that’s just not enough to raise a family. They do the best they can in a greedy and decadent age and they are to be commended.

Sarah isn’t a bad choice, she is the worst possible choice.
